Under-13s turn in star display for Northend United sides

The U13s were this week's top bill for the Northend teams with a good 5-1 win over Lisburn Ladies in the Daily Mirror Lisburn Youth League.

The U11s and U12s were also in action in the Lisburn League and the U11s can themselves unlucky not to take all the points from Lisburn Youth, who equalised with almost the last kick of the game in an exciting 2-2 match.

The U12s had no less luck, when leading their match against Willowbank, they also conceded late in the match in a 3-3 draw.

Elsewhere in the Lisburn League there were defeats for the U15s and U16s, against Windmill and Ballyclare Colts respectively.

All the teams in the North West and Coleraine District league were back in action this week, with both of Ally McGarry’s U10 teams turning in top performances against Coleraine Alexandra and Portrush respectively. The U9s continued their rich vein of form against top Coleraine side Bertie Peacocks Youths in a match they dominated from start to finish.

UNDER-9

Northend United U9s boys and girls are really enjoying their football at present and followed up a number of recent good performances by turning in another top display this week against Coleraine side, Bertie Peacocks Youths

Highlight of the day was two goals from Luke Campbell and another goal from Lewis McDonald who also turned in a man of the match display.

UNDER-11

Northend United 2, Lisburn Youth 2: Lisburn came out of the traps the sharpest, took the lead in the first minute and controlled the early minutes of the match.

The move of the match came when Ben Adams sent a long ball down the line to McKeown, who beat his man and sent a low drive across the box for Kyle Wakefield to meet and place into the back of the net to make it all square.

Jamie Magill, who was now starting to push forward out of defence played a lovely ball into Wakefield, who switched it back outside to McKeown, who ran forward and cut inside onto his trusty right foot and sent a shot into the top corner, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Then with three minutes remaining Northend had a rare switch off to let Lisburn in for their equaliser. Full Time 2-2

Northend 3, Willowbank 3: The Ballymena boys looked a little sluggish in the opening minutes before Callum McMurray finished off some good build-up play between Kai Barr and Kevin Cosgrove with seven minutes gone.

McMurray scored his and Northend’s second on eighteen minutes when he burst onto a through ball from Jack McIlhatton and delightfully chipped the on-rushing keeper.

Northend did make it three within the opening minutes of the second half, Jack Adams fired another dangerous free-kick towards goal and Kevin Cosgrove was on hand to blast the ball into the net.

Willowbank pulled themselves back into the game with two relatively lucky strikes which soared high over Curtis Wilson in goal.

Willowbank drew themselves level after the referee waved play on following a heavy tackle on David McKay.

UNDER-13

Northend United 5, Lisburn Ladies 1: Northend took the lead early on with a nicely taken goal from Harry Wylie. A nice controlled touch and side foot finish into the roof of the net. Patrick Ferris made it 2-0 after fifteen minutes.

The second half was more of the same from Northend Adam Campbell got on the score sheet along with Patrick Ferris getting his second and then Jamie Montgomery making it 5-0, scoring his first goal of the season. UNDER-15

Windmill 5, Northend United 1: Northend were four goals down before some good play between Conor McDonald and Jude Currie saw Currie outpace his marker and slip the ball into the bottom corner.

With Northend pressing, they were caught out in the last few minutes of the game, to concede a fifth goal.
