The midfielders, two of the club’s longest-serving players having been signed by previous manager Roy Walker, were informed of manager Glenn Ferguson’s decision before Saturday’s match against Coleraine.

Kane and Taggart watched from the stands as United fell to a 2-0 defeat - their third straight defeat since the start of the season.

A statement on the club’s official Twitter account prior to kick-off said the pair had been transfer-listed “with immediate effect”.

It is understood that the sanctions have been imposed in relation to alleged comments made by players on social media.

When asked about the situation after the game, Ferguson said: “That is a disciplinary matter that has been dealt with before the game.

“We will address that over the next couple of weeks,” added the manager, who would not elaborate on the reason behind the disciplinary action.

When asked if the duo would still be considered for selection in the meantime, Ferguson said: “They are contracted players who have been disciplined and they are, at this moment in time, suspended.”
