“I was delighted with the lads’ performances – there were some good ones and some really, really good ones, against a virtually full-strength Ards team.

“We have spoken at length a number of times with Caolan Loughran – we think he has a really big chance.

“It’s one of the positions we had been looking for and I’m starting to think now why should we go an get someone we’re not sure about when we have someone home grown. He has the height and physique, he maybe needs to get a wee bit stronger but he looks a really good centre-half.

“Jason Johnston in midfield started the season in the youth team – quite a few of those boys have now played youth, reserves and first team in the same season.

“About eight of them are still youth team age so they didn’t do themselves any harm whatsoever.

“I told them to go out, enjoy themselves, express themselves and don’t be afraid to make mistakes and if they do, try and cover for it.

“Eoin Kane again was super on the ball – he’s technically very good, very composed and can certainly play a pass.

“I’m sure a lot of them had their mums and dads here watching them today and I’m sure they’ll be very proud of how they did,” added Ferguson.
