The striker has stepped up from junior football in the Coleraine and District League, where he scored a staggering 158 goals in two seasons for Kilrea United.

And Rafferty continued his free-scoring form by hitting the net in both games last week as Wakehurst secured back-to-back friendly victories.

Andy Laughlin was also on target in a 2-1 win at Shankill United, while Jordan FOster also found the net in a 2-0 win over Coleraine Reserves.

“What was particularly pleasing in the Shankill win was that after the Knockbreda defeat in our first game, we worked on our shape and pressing game and this proved the difference,” said Muir.

“It was also great to get our first clean sheet against Coleraine Reserves who had finished in the top three of the Reserve League last year and we had pretty much a totally different starting XI from the match 48 hours earlier.

“Tiernan Rafferty is a great signing for the club as he offers a totally different dimension that Wakehurst haven’t had for a while.

“He is a very intelligent footballer who seems to have so much time on the ball bringing other players into the game.

“He knows where the net is and he is already starting to forge a good partnership with Jordan Foster,” added Muir, whose team are in action tonight (Tuesday) against Saturday Morning League side Raceview at Antrim Forum.

“Our reserve team beat Penarol last week with Bradley Cairns scoring a couple which once again show the value of our partnership with Northend United.

“We had four under-17 players in our reserve team line-up and we have invited all four of the guys to experience the first team changing room at our match against Ballymena United Reserves this Saturday,” added Muir.
