Wakehurst boss ‘reviewing position’ after fourth straight loss

The Ballymena side went down 4-0 to bottom-of-the-table Glebe Rangers - the Ballymoney outfit’s first win in the league.

“If someone else within the club or outside of it feels they could have a go at it, or if the club feels that way, I would step aside,” Gregg told Times Sport.

“I’m not talking about walking away completely from the club but just looking for a solution to our worst run in my time at the club.

“I don’t feel it’s the case that the players aren’t doing it for me - I have always praised them for their commitment and I still feel it’s the strongest squad I’ve had at my disposal.

“The first half of Saturday’s game was something I have never experienced in my footballing life.

“We had dominated the match, hit the bar, created chances and yet came in 3-0 down - it was bewildering.

“We tried hard in the second half but it was little more than a formality.

“I felt the referee made a bad decision when Conor Gregg was scythed down when clean through with the score at 0-0 - decisions at that stage games can affect the outcome and referees are relatively well paid so they have to get those decisions right,” added Gregg.

Goals from Gareth Henry (2) and Peter Kennoway had put Wakehurst on the back foot in the opening period and despite a spirited attempt to salvage something from the game, they were punished again on 65 minutes when a Glebe free kick was headed home by Aaron Wilkinson.

Wakehurst’s misery was compounded in the closing minutes of the game when Paul Muir was sent off after a clash with Tommy Elder.
