Wakehurst boss takes positives out of friendly defeat

Wakehurst manager Paul Muir took the positives out of his side’s 5-2 defeat by Knockbreda in their opening pre-season game.

“It was a very worthwhile exercise with plenty of positives against a quality CHampionship One side,” said Muir, who had five new receuits in his starting line-up.

Jordon Foster and John Alexander scored the Wakehurst goals but Muir felt that errors contributed to two of the visitors’ goals.

Wakehurst tarvel to Shankill UNited this Thursday night, followed by a game against Coleraine Reserves at the University of Ulster Coleraine on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Muir has bolstered his squad further by signing Jake Armstrong and Craig McCaughern from Saturday Morning League side Galgorm Blues.

“Jake is busy midfielder with great engine and Craig is a technically gifted player at right back,” said Muir.

“The squad is starting to take shape and I hope to have 20 in place shortly to start working closely on set up, shape, patterns of play during pre season games.”

Muir will also run his eye over Kilrea United duo Tiernan Rafferty and Connor McKenna in pre-season.
