Wakehurst ‘imploded’ in cup thrashing - manager

Wakehurst boss Ian Gregg admitted his side “imploded” as their Coca-Cola IFA Intermediate Cup came to crashing halt on Saturday.

The Ballymena men exited the on the back of a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Amateur League Immaculata.

“I expected we would get a tough game - what I didn’t expect was a thrashing,” admitted Gregg.

“It was a game which in many ways has summed up our season, although 5-0 was probably a bit harsh in the end.

“If we had put away our chances at particular times it would have been a different outcome - we missed four one-on-ones with the goalkeeper in the second half.

“But at the back we’re far too porous - one look at our goals against column in the league table will tell you that.

“We had dominated possession and territory in the first half and missed chances, yet ended up going in a goal down.

“But once they scored their second goal we just imploded and they grew in confidence - they scored or at least hit the target with virtually every attack they created,” added Gregg.
