Wakehurst's winning run goes on

WAKEHURST continued their impressive start to the league campaign on Saturday with a 2-0 victory against PSNI at Mill Meadow.

Wakehurst were on top in the the opening period but were thankful to keeper Gavin Mark for keeping them level when he tipped a Kris Hunter effort over for a corner.

Wakehurst had a number of chances to open the scoring in the first half with the best effort falling to Jason Paul on 44 minutes and only a good save by former 'Hurst keeper Keith Wilson in the PSNI goal kept the sides level at half time.

Wakehurst got the breakthrough they deserved on 47 minutes when they were awarded a free kick. Andy Erwin took the free and fired the ball into the penalty area. Wilson couldn't hold Ross Steele's header and Jason Paul was on hand to fire home the rebound.

On 57 minutes the PSNI's fate was sealed when Wakehurst were awarded a penalty for a foul on Jason Paul. Mark Crawford stepped up and make no mistake giving Wilson no chance to make it 2-0 for Wakehurst, who remain unbeaten in five Championship Two games and are among the early pacesetters in the promotion hunt.

Wakehurst have no game this weekend, due to the Steel & Sons Cup quarter-finals, and return to action on October 23 away to Dundela.
