Winning Friday night feeling for Carniny Youth U-17s

The Easter holidays meant for a reduced Carniny Youth FC fixture list last weekend with only the Under 14s, 17s and 19s in action.

The U17s were first to play on Friday evening, putting in a good display against table toppers Institute coming back from one down to win 2-1.

The Under 14s were involved in a important tie against Limavady Youth, with points both valuable to both teams fighting to keep their status in the Premier Division of the National League. Unfortunately the Carniny boys lost out to a single goal from a free kick from the North West outfit.

The U14s will have something to look forward to though when they travel to the North East of England in a weekend visit to partner club, Sunderland, where they will take in a training sessions, a match and also see the ‘Black Cats’ take on title chasing Leicester City.

The U19s rounded off the weekend action in the NIFL Youth League taking on Irish league Academy opposition in Carrick Rangers Colts. The boys were guilty of squandering a two goal advantage and had on settle for a 2-2 with their East Antrim counterparts.

UNDER-14

Carniny Youth 0, Limavady Youth 1: After an evenly-contested and scoreless first half, it looked as if one goal was going to win the game.

It went to Limavady after hopeful long free kick was launched into the box and ended up going in off the far post.

UNDER-17

Carniny Youth 2, Institute 1: Institute opened the scoring when hesitancy in the Carniny defence allowed a Stute player through and he slotted the ball past Gareth Kealey in the Carniny goal.

Institute gave away a free kick in the second half and Conor Doherty delivered a good cross into the Institute penalty area where the unmarked Cathair Henderson was able to knock the ball into the net.

Carniny kept pushing forward looking for a winner and they found it when Conor Doherty was able to find space at the edge of the penalty area and place a shot past the despairing dive of the Institute goalkeeper.

NIFL YOUTH LEAGUE

Carniny Youth 2, Carrick Rangers Colts 2: It wasn’t until approaching half time that the home side took the lead through James Price who capitalised on a Rangers defensive error.

Four minutes into the second period Carniny earned their second goal to double their sides lead and again it came from Price who was proving a handful for the Carrick.

Carniny looked well in control but slack defending on the hour presented Carrick with a corner kick which they capitalised on to reduce the arrears.

Five minutes later Carniny failed to clear a simple chance in midfield and the visitors pounced to score and draw level.

Carniny tried to take charge of the game again and were denied by the woodwork on two occasions.
