Glens community fire station meeting

PEOPLE in The Glens have been encouraged to come out and show their support and attend the public meeting to discuss a new community fire station in The Glens by Sinn Fein councillor Colum Thompson.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 7th at 7.30pm in The Glens Hotel in Cushendall.

Making the appeal on behalf of the Glens Action Group which has formed and is co-ordinating the campaign for a new community fire station Councillor Thompson said: “I would ask the people of The Glens to attend the meeting and show their support for our local fire fighters and the building of a new community fire station.

“The action group has received a huge amount of support from the local clergy, businesses and GP’s. Our local Sinn Fein MLA Oliver Mc Mullan has been championing the campaign at a central government level, questioning The Minister For Health Edwin Poots on several occasions. The Glens Action Group have also had messages of support from communities such as Carnlough, Glenarm and Glenravel.

“The current fire station was constructed over twenty years ago as a temporary building and it is not fit for purpose in this day and age as a community station and it cannot facilitate female fire fighters. Our local fire fighters really are the unsung hero’s in the community.

“They provide a fantastic service to the people in The Glens and over the past twenty years scores of lives have been saved as a result of the courageous efforts of the local fire brigade. They provide a first class service and it is time they had a community fire station which matched the service which they provide.”
