Alexander’s great display secures June Medal success at Galgorm

The Panasonic Power Tools June Medal was played at Galgorm and at halfway Trevor Alexander and Mervyn Foster were vying for the lead.

They were being pressed by David Chappell (14) and Keith Barkley (9) a shot behind. Colin Steele (4) and Ryan Addley (8) were a further shot behind.

Through the Maple and Foster was leading Chappell by a shot with Alexander and Barkley another shot away. Steele and Addley were still two shots behind the leader.

A run of two pars and a birdie over the next three holes by Alexander and he was one shot ahead of Foster (two pars and a bogey) and Chappell (a par and two bogeys). Addley was another three shots down with Steele and Barkley a further shot behind.

T.Alexander’s good run ended as he came home with two bogeys but held on to win Overall by one shot from M.Foster (double bogey, par) and D.Chappell (two bogeys) and with a better back nine Chappell finished as Overall Runner-Up.

Foster won Division 1 three shots clear of Addley (double bogey, par), Steele (bogey, birdie) and K.Barkley (bogey, par) who finished together. Steele with a better back six was second with third place going to Addley with a better bak nine.

George Watt (11) was a shot ahead of Paul Reid (12) and Ronnie Taylor (14) entering the back nine in Division 2. Ivan Alexander (15) was another shot behind.

Through thirteen Watt, Reid and Taylor were level, two points ahead of Alexander. Over the following three holes Reid with three pars moved into a two shot advantage from Watt (bogey, par, bogey), Taylor (three bogeys) and an improving Alexander (three pars).

Reid was unable to sustain his effort and finished with two bogeys where he was joined by I.Alexander (bogey, par) and with a better back nine first place went to I.Alexander with Reid second. Taylor (bogey, par) and Watt (bogey, par) finished together a shot behind and third place went to Taylor with a better back nine.

In Division 3 at the turn John McClintock (17) held a narrow one shot advantage over Alan Jones (22) who in turn was one shot ahead of Joshua Hill (17). John Carruthers was another three shots behind. McClintock was joined by Jones through thirteen with Carruthers three shots behind. Young Hill was another shot down after encountering bogey trouble through ten and eleven.

John McClintock and Jones were still together up the Grove and still three shots clear of Carruthers who was a shot ahead of Hill.

McClintock finished bogey, par to win by three shots from Jones who ran into bogey trouble over the closing holes and finished with two double bogeys. This enabled Carruthers (two bogeys) and Hill (double bogey, par) to close to within one shot of Jones and with a better back nine Carruthers took third place.

Steven Penney (2) won the Gross with Trevor Dawson (15) taking the Seniors Prize.

The subsidiary stableford prize was won by Tony Dodds (26) who had three points to spare from Colin Black (22).
