Another close finish in latest Eclectic event at Galgorm

The Weekly Sweep/Eclectic 5 continued at Galgorm Castle Golf Club and in Division 1 there was a very close finish with only one point separating seven players.

Through 13 Trevor Alexander (5) was ahead but he was under heavy pressure from David Stirling (4), David Keys (3), Jonathan McCart (5) and Jonathan McNeill (1) who were only one point behind. A further point behind came Rod Lennox (5) and Stephen McAuley (2).

Up the Grove Alexander was joined by Stirling and they were followed by Keys and McNeill a point behind. Lennox and McCart were another point behind with McAuley a further point adrift.

Lennox (2 pars), a strong finishing McAuley (2 birdies), Keys (par, bogey), McCart (2 pars) and McNeill (bogey, birdie) all finished together but they were unable to catch Stirling (par, bogey) and Alexander (bogey, par) who finished one point ahead and with a better last three Stirling finished in first place with Alexander second. McNeill won the Gross.

Norman Nicholl (8) was ahead in Division 2 after 13. A point behind came Brian Sims (9) who was a point ahead of Noel McAlynn (7), Ivan Alexander (7) and George Simpson (8). Richard Lennox (8) and Robert Topping (7) were another one and two points respectively further behind at this stage.

Nicholl ‘dinged’ the Lowlands and McAlynn grasped the opportunity and with two pars came home to win by two points from Nicholl (bogey), Alexander (double bogey, par), Topping (bogey, par), Simpson (double bogey, par), Sims (double bogey, par) and Lennox (par, bogey) and with a better last six Topping emerged to finish second.

In Division 3 there were there were three players vying for the lead through twelve – Ashley Doole (13), Ian Manson (10) and Mervyn Lamont (11). Two points behind came Garth Wilson (9).

A run of three pars enabled Wilson to join Doole (bogey, double bogey, par) at the finish and with a better last six Wilson took first place with Doole in second. Manson (par, bogey, bogey) and Lamont (double bogey, bogey, par) finished together one point behind the placings.
