Black magic earns sweep success at Galgorm

In the Sweep played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club Paul Black (6) was two points ahead of James Taylor (4), Alan Black (6) and Campbell McAnally (6) after the Niuc in Division 1.

Another two points behind came Gary McWilliams (4).

Through seven P Black after a run of birdie, par, par had increased his lead to three points over McAnally (par, bogey, birdie), Taylor (three pars) and they were joined by McWilliams with the help of two birdies and a par. Although finishing with two bogeys, P Black held on to win by one point from a fast finishing McWilliams (par,

birdie). McAnally (par, bogey), Taylor (two pars) and an improved A Black (two birdies) finished together another point behind and with a better last six McAnally took third place with A Black winning the Gross.

After three in Division 2 David Kilpatrick (8) was leading by one point from a trio of golfers – Jonathan Keys (8), Terence Martin (8) and David Irvine (8). Another point behind Emil Wylie (6), Brian Heggarty (8) and Jonathan McCart (6) were also in contention. David Montgomery (8) was another point adrift.

With two to play Kilpatrick had been overtaken by Keys, Martin and Irvine who were one point ahead. McCart joined Kilpatrick one point behind and they in turn were one point ahead of Wylie, Montgomery and Heggarty.

Keys forged ahead over the closing two holes with two pars to win by one point from an improved Wylie (birdie, par) in second place. In a strong finish, T Martin (two bogeys) and Irvine (two bogeys)

were joined by Heggarty (bogey, birdie), McCart (bogey, par), Kilpatrick (bogey, par) and Montgomery (two pars) all finished together another point down and with a better last six, Montgomery took third place.

Robert Barkley (10) was one point ahead of James Logan (9) and Cyril Reid (14) through four in Division 3 with James Campbell a further three points adrift.

Barkley continued to lead and with two left to play was still one point ahead of Logan and Campbell (three pars) with Reid a further point behind.

Logan (double bogey, par), R.Barkley (‘ding’, par), Campbell (par, ‘ding’) and Reid (double bogey, par) all finished together and with a better last three Reid finished first with Campbell (better last six) second and Logan third.

Twos were recorded by: P Black, G McWilliams, M Dunlop, D Kernohan, S Mailey, C McAnally, T McNeill B Sims and W Park.
