Close finish in Millennium Jug event at Galgorm

The Millennium Jug was played as a 2-Man Stroke Competition at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

At the finish only one shot separated the first four teams.

At halfway Michael Nesbitt (14) and Hugh Mussen (23) were one shot ahead of Jackson Minford (16) and Steve Henry (27) with the Stephen McAuley (4)/Colin Steele (4) and Trevor Fleming (8)/Daniel Gordon Allen (16) pairings another one and two shots respectively further behind.

Through thirteen Nesbitt and Mussen had increased their lead to three shots followed by McAuley and Steele.

Minford and Henry were another two shots adrift followed by Fleming and Allen a further two shots behind.

Approaching the Lowlands and with two holes left to play S McAuley and Steele were two shots behind M.Nesbitt and Mussen with Minford and S Henry close up one further shot away.

An improving Fleming and Allen had also closed the gap and were lying four shots off the pace.

A par at seventeen by the McAuley/Steele pairing moved them to within one shot of the lead as disaster struck the Nesbitt/Mussen combination and they could only manage a triple bogey at best.

Bogeys from the Minford/Henry and Fleming/Allen pairings enabled them to close further and they lay one and two shots respectively behind McAuley and Steele.

A bogey at the last from Nesbitt and Mussen opened up the door for the other three pairings.

McAuley and Steele came home with a birdie to give them a one shot victory from M.Nesbitt and Mussen who were joined by Minford and S.Henry (par) and Fleming and Allen (birdie).

With a better back nine Fleming and Allen took second place and with a better back nine Minford and Henry finished third.

Overall Winner – Stephen McAuley/Colin Steele 63; Runner-up – Trevor Fleming/Daniel Gordon Allen 64 (BB9); third – Jackson Minford/Steve Henry 64.
