Delight for Daly in April Medal competition at Galgorm Castle

At halfway in the April Medal held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club, 17-handicapper Eoghan Daly, George Small (9) and Stephen Black (12) were one shot ahead of Barry Mott (28) and Norman Nicholl (17).

Through 13, Mott joined Daly, Small and Black with Gary McWilliams (9), William Armstrong (19) and David Cameron (28) were one shot behind. After the Grove Daly and Mott were a shot ahead of Small and Black.

In an exciting last two holes Daly with two pars emerged as the overall winner by one shot from Mott (double bogey, par) in the runner-up position.

In Division 1 at halfway George Small (9) was two shots ahead of Gary McWilliams (9) who was another shot in front of Trevor Fleming (8).

Up the Grove and with two holes to play only two shots separated the three players with Small still leading by one from McWilliams with Fleming another shot back.

Small finished with two bogeys and was joined by McWilliams who finished bogey, par and with a better back nine McWilliams took first place with Small second. Fleming (bogey, par) finished one shot behind.

Entering the back nine in Division 2, 12-handicapper Stephen Black had a handsome five shot lead from Aidan McNeill (14). Gareth Beckington (13) was another shot behind.

After 16, Black’s lead although reduced still had a comfortable four shot lead over McNeill and Beckington. Black completed his round with a bogey and a par to win from McNeill (par, bogey) and Beckington (bogey, par) and with a better back nine Beckington finished second.

After the front nine in Division 3 Norman Nicholl (17) was leading by one shot from William Armstrong (19). Gary Moon (17) was a shot further back with John McClintock (18) another two shots away.

Approaching the Lowlands there was a new leader as Moon took over by one shot from Armstrong who hit bogey trouble. Nicholl was two shots behinde the leader with McClintock a further two shots behind.

In a storming finish Moon ((double bogey, bogey), Armstrong (double bogey, par) and Nicholl (bogey, par) finished together and Moon with a better back nine took first place and with Armstrong taking the Seniors.

In Division 4 at the halfway point David Cameron (28) was leading by one shot from Ronnie Gilchrist (24) and Jim Millar (21). Three shots behind them came John McFarland (20) who was one shot ahead of James Campbell (26). Alan Featherstone (20) was another two shots adrift.

With two holes to play Cameron was ahead by three shots from McFarland who had a one shot advantage over Gilchrist and Millar. Cameron came home with two double bogeys but managed to hold on to win by two shots.
