Drew 'Open' for biggest success of golf career

The Ballymena golfer finished second in the showpiece event on the blind golf calendar last year and admits he would love to go one better this time around.

"I think if I won the British Open I would probably retire!" laughs Drew.

"Seriously, I enjoy it too much to give it up, especially the comradeship with the other players.

"Golf has given me a life for the last 19 years and through it, I have made friends all over the world."

Those friendships will be temporarily put to one side, however, as Drew lines up for two major events this week, both of them at Whittlebury Park in Northamptonshire, near Silverstone motor racing circuit.

First up is the World Championships, a 32-hole stroke play competition which concludes today (Tuesday).

Then after a rest day on Wednesday, it's the British Blind Open on the Thursday and Friday.

"I was very pleased to finish second last year and I would love to go one better this time.

"I'm playing quite steadily at the minute and I'm top of the Order of Merit over here," added Drew, who will add another country to his golfing globetrotting in October when he competes in the inaugural Italian Blind Open in Milan.
