Drew's date with golfing stars

DREW Cochrane will rub shoulders with some of golf's greats of yesteryear next week.

The Ballymena blind golfer has been invited to attend the Handa Senior Masters in Leicestershire next week.

The Pinegrove man’s primary role will be to promote blind golf across the world - role which he is well used to in his capacity as chairman of Northern Ireland Blind Golf.

But Drew hopes to mix business with pleasure and swing a club in illustrious company such as names like Nick Faldo at the event.

“I will get to play a round with one of the competitors as they prepare for the start of the competition later in the week,” Drew told Times Sport.

“I’ve never met any of those players so I’m looking forward to it a lot.

“Myself and two others also have a clinic with Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam so it will be interesting to hear what they have to say.”

On the playing side, Drew has a busy summer in store with big dates including the British Blind Masters in June and the World Championships and British Blind Open in August.

He will conclude his season with a ‘first’ when he takes part in the Italian Open in Milan.
