Months of planning and preparation will come to fruition as Galgorm Castle Golf Club hosts the Northern Ireland Open Challenge.

Fresh from finishing 28th at last weekend’s Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, tournament ambassador Michael Hoey is among the list of entrants vying for the title as Galgorm continues its meteoric progress as a top tournament venue.

“Last year’s Irish Open at Portrush was great, so was Carton House this year and I know crowds in the region of 30,000 are expected over the week at Galgorm in what promises to another great atmosphere,” said Hoey.

Alan Dunbar, the 2012 Amateur champion and Walker Cup winner will be another big draw at Galgorm.

“Galgorm is always in great condition, especially the greens. One of my earlier memories was competing there at the Ulster Youths. I know it was low scoring when the EuroPro was played there too so I will need to get the putter going to have any chance.”

Before the serious business starts on Thursday, concluding on Sunday, there is a chance for locals to enjoy some more light-hearted golfing fun with a Pro-Am on Wednesday featuring celebrities including Pat Jennings, David Healy and David Humphreys.
