Kerr-ful does it as Lawrence wins Donnelly & Taggart stableford

Lawrence Kerr was the winner of the Donnelly & Taggart (Motor Factors) sponsored stableford competition at Ballymena Golf Club, with a total of 43 points.

A front nine of two over gross was rewarded with 23 points to which he added five pars, three bogeys plus a double Gbogeyoqey on the penultuimate hole.

In second place was Richard Mark (7) with a total of 42 points and he played the course in one over gross, with 24 of those points amassed on the front nine, which he played in three under par.

Clifford Worthington claimed third prize with 41 points after scoring 22 on the outward nine and he played steadily for a further 19 on the way home.

Fourth nett prize went to William Humphrey (16) who scored the majority - 21 - of his 40 points on the back nine, where he finished with four straight pars for 12 points.

Ryan Hamill collected the fifth nett prize with 39 points and on a better second nine total from Raymond Scullion. Ryan’s total was boosted by a birdie on the final hole which was worth four of his 22 second nine points.

That was three more than Scullion (16) could manage over the same stretch, after scoring 20 points on the way out.

The best grosss prize was won by one of the club’s young players Adrian Gough who, playing off seven, went around the course in two over par, 70 shots.

GOLF SHOP OPEN

The Golf Shop open was won by Shane McWilliams who, off a 13 handicap, posted 46 points, 24 of them coming from a level par opening nine holes.

He had five points to spare over Darren Hill (13) who in turn was one point better than Kieran McGaughey in third.

Another of the club’s young talents, Craig McCartney (6) won the gross prize after playing the course in two over par, 70 shots.

It was team time for the ladies at Ballymena Golf Club this week with the Open Day Team event sponsored by K&G McAtamney Butchers.

The winners with 82 were the trio of Jacqui Brown, Jill Crockard and Liz Small, who finished with the same score as runners-up, Ann Jamieson, Hazel Kernohan and Margaret Logan, who were just edged out courtesy of the countback system on the back nine.
