Mark above par at Raceview

The Tullymore Cup competition at Ballymena Golf Club saw a different system of scoring to the normal stableford format with players scoring against the par of the hole.

The system produced some tremendous scores, with preferred lies being in operation, with the top score coming from Mark McGaughey who, off a 21-handicap, finished nine up on par.

McGaughey scored nine pars plus seven single bogeys. He had double bogeys on th eighth and 15th but but he had two shots on handicap at the latter, meaning the only hole where he went minus to par was the eighth.

Second prize was won by Raymond Scullion (14) who finished eight up on par and 10 plusses, six level with par and two minuses on the ninbth and 18th where he scored a pair of sevens.

Category one was won by Stephen Russell (5) who finished five up, having been two down after three holes but re recovered and played the second nine in two under gross.

Chris Ramsey (13) topped category two wit ha score of six up on par, five of which came came on the second nine.

Category three went to David Chambers (17) who finished on plus eight, having been six up at the turn having played the front nine holes in level par gross.

Eugene M Reid (19) finished six up on par to win category four after getting his game toegther on the second nine, where he was five up on par.

The best gross card came from young Jonathan Law who, off three, played the course in 66 shots to be five up on par.

ST PATRICK’S DAY OPEN

The St Patrick’s Day open saw Bruce McKenzie (11) demolish the field with a score of 45 stableford points, two clear of second placed Brian N Logan (19).
