Marquee victory for Caulfield at Galgorm

The Mid Antrim Marquees sponsored Stableford was played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in fine conditions and at half way John Caulfield (21) was leading by two points from Andrew McLarnon (15) and Adrian McCart (9).

John McCarry (9) and Colin Steele (9) were another point behind with David Keys a further two points down.

Through the Maple Caulfield’s lead was reeduced to one point by McLarnon and Steele. Caulfield gained a point on McLarnon and Steele up the Grove to lead by two points with two holes left to play. Caulfield finished bogey, par to win Overall by three points from McLarnon (two bogeys) in the Overall Runner-up position.

Steele (par, ‘ding’) and McCarry (two pars finished together and with a better back six McCarry won Division 1 with Steele winning the Gross. D.Keys (bogey, par) took second place a point behind McCarry with A.McCart (bogey, par) third.

Graham Simms (14) and Jonathan McCart (12) were one point ahead of Rod Lennox (12) at the turn in Division 2. Gary Hood (14) was a further five points behind at this stage.

Up the Grove McCart was still leading but by only one point from Simms and Lennox followed by Hood three points further away. Simms joined McCart through the Lowlands but a ‘ding’ from McCart up the last handed Simms (par) the win by two points.

A further point behind Rod Lennox (‘ding’, par) just held on to third place from G.Hood by a point.

After the front nine in Division 3 Trevor Dawson (16) held a one point advantage over Kevin Duffin (19) who was followed by Barry Mott (19), William Kennedy (19) and Michael Barr (18) another point behind. David McIlroy (16),Colin Black (19) and John McClintock (17) were a further one, two and three points respectively behind.

Going to the Lowlands tee there was a three way tie between an improved McIlroy (with the help of a birdie at Beechers), Duffin and Barr.

McIlroy (double bogey, bogey) and Duffin (double bogey, bogey) finished together and with a better back nine McIlroy took first place with Duffin second. Third place went to Mott who finished bogey, par.

Entering the back nine in Division 4 James Rea 28) was two points ahead of Brian McFall (25) and Amarath Dan (22) followed by Raymond Steele (21) a further two points behind.

After the Maple Rea was still leading by two points from McFall (‘ding’ at the Fort) with Steele and Dan a further one and two points respectively behind.

In a close finish Rea (bogey, ‘ding’), Steele (bogey, double bogey) and Dan (two bogeys) finished together and with a better back nine first place went to Steele with Rea (bogey, ‘ding’) second.

Two points behind McFall (two double bogeys) finished in third place. Dan won the Seniors.
