Specsavers Strokeplay event concludes today at Galgorm

SPECSAVERS in Ballymena has its eagle eyes firmly focused on the North of Ireland Open Strokeplay event which teed-off yesterday, Monday, at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Only eight weeks after the professionals at the PGA EuroPro battled it out on the championship course, Specsavers is delighted to see top amateurs from the ‘home of golf’ raise the bar.

For the first time the event is offering players the chance to qualify for the Men’s World Amateur Golf Ranking Points, one of only two NI events that currently offer this elusive qualifying opportunity on a new 72-hole format.

Valerie Penney, store director of Specsavers Ballymena, says: “It is a great tournament and we are delighted to see the level of local support for the amateurs - my husband is even playing in the tournament!

“Specsavers’ sponsorship highlights our professionalism and commitment to sport. As opticians, we understand that good vision is vital to good sportsmanship, and especially so for golfers for focusing on their drive and putt.

“We would like to thank all those who are taking part and wish them all the best for the last day of the tournament.’

All competitors played 36 holes yesterday (Monday 22 August), with the leading 40 and ties qualifying for the final 36 holes today (Tuesday 23 August). In the event of a tie the outcome will be decided by a sudden death play-off.
