Strong finish from Gareth at Galgorm Castle

Colin Steele (5) and Gareth Elliot (21) were a further point behind with Brian McFall jnr (10) and David Stirling jnr (4) another point in arrears.

Through fourteen Mailey had lost his lead as a result of two ‘dings’ and now found himself trailing the new leader M Dallat by three points.

Another new leader emerged through 16. A birdie up the Grove by Elliot helped him to a two point advantage over M Dallat.

Elliot increased his lead to three points at the finish when he came home with a bogey, par over the last two holes to take the Overall Winner’s Prize. In a very close finish, McFall jnr (two pars) and P Dallat (par, birdie) finished together and with a better back nine, the Overall Runner’s-Up place went to McFall jnr.

P Dallat won Division 1 while M Dallat (bogey, par), Stirling jnr (two pars), Steele (bogey, par) and Mailey (two pars) finished together and with a better back nine Stirling jnr finished in second place with third place going to Steele with a better back nine. M Dallat won the Gross Prize and Mailey won the Seniors.

In Division 2 at halfway Neil Fitzsimmons (15) was a point ahead of George Watt (11). David Gault (11) was a further point behind followed by Gary Moon (14) another two points adrift.

Up the Grove and Fitzsimmons had joined Gault and Watt two points ahead of Moon who was trying hard to catch up.

‘Dings’ were a feature over the closing holes as Gault (bogey, ‘ding’), Watt (bogey, ‘ding’) and Fitzsimmons (‘ding’, bogey) finished together and with a better back nine first place was taken by Gault. Second place went to Watt with a better back nine and Fitzsimmons finished third.

In Division 3 Reginald McDowell (19) held a slender one point advantage over Aidan Donnelly (16) and Alan Knox (16) as they entered the back nine. John McClintock (18) was another point behind with Seamus Laverty (17) two more points away.

With two holes to play McClintock was two points ahead of McDowell and an improved Laverty followed by Elliot and Knox another point behind. McClintock was still two points in front after the Lowlands but ‘dinged’ the last. Donnelly took advantage with a par to claim first place a point in front of John McClintock. Third went to Alan Knox (bogey, par).

Graham Michael (23) held a very commanding looking five point advantage after the front nine in Division 4.

Michael with his lead diminishing finished with two bogeys and managed to hold on to win by one point from Drew Stewart (two bogeys) with Tony Dodds (two bogeys) in third place.
