Hockey club reflects on season at annual prizegiving night

Ballymena Hockey Club reflected on the season that is just ending at their annual dinner and awards evening recently at Eaton Park.

The event was attended by Club members from the four ladies and two men’s teams, club coaches and officials.

For this year’s dinner the nominated charity was Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and the night kicked off with a fundraising game based on team stats throughout the season which was won by Coach Davy Allen.

The winners on the night were;

LADIES’ SECTION

Club senior player of the year - Joanne Davis

1st XI senior player of the year - Clare Gillespie

1st XI junior player of the year - Holly Taggart

2nd XI senior player of the year - Emma Clarke

2nd XI junior player of the year - Emily Alexander

3rd XI senior player of the year - Emma Johnston

3rd XI junior player of the year - Rebecca Jones

4th XI senior player of the year - Nadine ford

4th XI junior player of the year - Catherine Perry

Most consistent senior player - Natalie Rea

Most consistent junior player - Ellen king

Most improved senior player - Emma Gillespie

Most improved junior player - Grace McCready

Top goal scorers - Emma Gillespie and Clare Gillespie

Representative awards for Ulster and Ireland U18 - Holly Taggart

Ulster junior representative awards - Emma Gillespie and Joanne Davis

MEN’S SECTION

1st XI player of the year – Alex McKeown

2nd XI player of the year – Jamie Grimason

Young player of the year – Sam Glass

Most improved player of the year – Kris McConaghie

Top goal scorers – Alex McKeown and Andrew Lorimer

Club man of the year – Phil Nicholl

Club Chairmen Trevor Topping then presented the awards for Team of the year to the Ladies 1st XI, followed by the Club person of the year in recognition of her work in coaching the Ladies 1st XI and winning two Senior Cup finals in three years to Mary Glass.

Ladies 1st XI Captain introduced a short video reflecting on retiring coach Mary Glass’s time with the team over the last four years, before presenting several gifts on behalf of the team including a montage of photos from their Senior Cup victories.

The formal part of the night was closed out by Club President Eddie Hampton.
