Hot weekend of action ahead for rod racers

THE UK's top National Hot Rod racers descend on Ballymena Raceway this Saturday (September 18) to contest the British Championship.

Lincolnshire’s Andy Holtby is the current champion and the rapid Englishman is sure to be a top contender again in his 230bhp Vauxhall Tigra.

The local challenge is headed by current Northern Ireland Champion John Christie from Crumlin and reigning Irish Open Champion Keith Martin from Dungannon.

Former British Champions Gary Woolsey and Stewart Doak are also expected to figure strongly, along with Portadown pair Glenn Bell and Wayne Woolsey.

There is also a full programme of support races at Raceway too with Classic Hot Rods, Stock Rods and Group Two Lightning Rods on the schedule.

The Group Two Lightning Rods will decide their Irish Champion for 2010 on Saturday evening, with Glarryford’s Shane Gault and Ballymena’s Lyle Murray and Kenny Carson expected to be involved in the thick of the battle for that one.

A fantastic evening of motorsport, featuring the very best of short circuit oval racing, commences in the Ballymena Showgrounds at 7:15pm.
