Jason wins final Road Club 10 miles time trial as season nears conclusion

Last week’s action in the Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles – club race series was the club’s final 10 miles time trial of the 2015 season.

It had been extremely wet all day but thankfully conditions improved in time for the event and it went ahead as scheduled, although with a change of venue from the Glarryford circuit to Woodgreen.

Conditions were fast with all but two of the BRC riders either posting a personal best or a recent season’s best time.

Jason Burns topped the club result with an impressive time of 21 minutes 26 seconds, which was 1 minute 16 seconds faster than top veteran rider Michael Carroll who clocked 22.42. Nigel Kernohan posted a personal best 22.47 for third place.

There was another PB for fourth placed Philip Morrison who clocked 22 minutes 50 seconds to beat his previous best, from April this year, by over three minutes! Philip won the handicap section.

Breandan McCavana was fastest junior with a PB 23.04 while Laura Blair won the ladies section with a PB time of 24 minutes 17 seconds. Mervyn Linton (Ballymoney) was fastest of the visitors with 20 minutes 38 seconds.

ROAD RACING LEAGUE

Ryan Bankhead continues to lead the club’s road racing league series which will be concluded at Glarryford when the Will Henry cup race takes place on Wednesday 26th August. Chief marshal is Hall Booth. The eight race league is very close this year between Ryan Bankhead and Matthew Brennan.

Ryan has 56 points while second placed Matthew has 52. Connor Young is third on 38. A rider’s best seven scores from the eight rounds counts for the overall league positions

TOURING SECTION

Ballymena Road Club’s touring section will travel to Westport on Friday 28th August for a four day tour in the area, they will return on bank holiday Monday 31st August.

One week later on Sunday 6th September the final “away for the day” tour takes place when the “Last Resort” tour of the harbours takes in a very scenic north coast route.

The tourists had hoped to start from Portrush but this is the same date as the air show in the resort so they will revert to their usual starting point at the refurbished duck pond in Ballymoney at 10am.
