Lights go out on Fairhill match

IT'S not often a pool match is abandoned due to the weather, but that's exactly what happened in last week's Ballymena Towers Pool League programme.

While indoor pursuits usually escape the worst of the climatic conditions, the inclement weather forced a halt to be called to the Fairhill Hustlers v Inn-Offs match on Tuesday night.

The gale force winds and icy conditions resulted in a loss of electricity in the Ahoghill venue.

The score at the time was 2-1 to Inn-Offs and the match will resume from that point at a later date.

Elsewhere, Minnesota Eight-Ballers stretched their advantage at the top of the Premier Division with a routine 5-1 win over Social Cobwebs.

There was also only one match played in Division One, which saw Knockeden Jokers win by the same scoreline at Social Sports.

There were two more points allocated without a ball being struck with Slemish Hotshots claiming the points after opponents Hardly Potters failed to turn up.

The Rolling Stoners v Moat Aces match was postponed and will be played at a later date, while Social Inbetweeners and Horse and Jockey both had bye weeks.

PREMIER DIVISION

Minnesota Eight-Ballers 5, Social Cobwebs 1: Social Cobwebs’ unlikely title challenge failed a crucial litmus test with this defeat in a game which was always likely to severely test their credentials.

Gary Erwin put Sota into the lead when he came from a frame down to beat Jimmy Knowles and Alan Davidson made it two when he beat Stephen Holmes in straight frames.

Cobwebs kept themselves in contention when Darren Magee beat Brian Hannaway by a 2-1 scoreline but Pat McAnally’s straight frames win over Liam Erwin assured the champions of at least a point.

That points tally was quickly doubled thanks to Ryan Foster’s 2-1 win over Barry Kernohan and Gary Clarke added some gloss to the scoreline by beating Neil Marrs in the final game.

MOM - Pat McAnally.

DIVISION ONE

Social Sports 1, Knockeden Jokers 5: Knockeden kept up the pressure on leaders Moat Aces with this victory at Slemish Drive.

Jamie Magill put Jokers ahead when he beat Ross Hill in straight frames but Richard Campbell levelled the scores after beating Carl Bruce by a 2-1 scoreline.

From there, however, Jokers moved into overdrive, regaining the lead through Gareth Rowe, who defeated Lee Wright in straight frames, while Martin Craig made it 3-1 with a come-from-behind win over Richard Turtle.

David Gillespie secured the victory with a 2-0 win over Brian Boyd, while Raymond Lynn beat May Barr by the same score to complete a good night for the Ballykeel side.

MOM - Richard Campbell.

PLAYER OF YEAR

Ryan Foster looks a huge favourite to win the Premier Division Player of the Year accolade.

He has 18 wins to his name - three more than his nearest challengers Darren Gibson and Stewart Frew.
