Local kids benefit from multi-sport fun weeks

Ballymena Community Sport Programme continued their annual Multi-Sports Fun Weeks last week at Seven Towers Leisure Centre.
Participants who received certificates after completing the Ballymena Community multi sport programme. Included are Gary Boyd (Community Sport Development Officer, organiser), Tom Wiggins (Community Rugby), Julie Alexander (lead coach), Chris Nicholl (active communities), Leslie McLaughlin (active communitities, Tory Alexander (Leisure Centre), Ross Finaly (Sainsburys Grocery manager) and Sadie Peachey (Sainsburys, who supported the event). This is the 9th year of the programme which uses many sports, including hockey, cricket, golf, tennis, rugby, football, basketball amongst others, to provide Fundamental Movement Skills training to boys and girls aged 6 to 12 years old.

Ballymena Borough Council’s, Community Sport Development Officer, Gary Boyd, who organises the programmes states: “Having run these programmes for many years, it never ceases to amaze me how much the kids improve over the 5 day programme.

This year’s programme is supported by Sainsbury’s “Active Kids” programme and Ballymena Councils “Active Communities” Programme. Thanks go to Daniel Pritchard, Sainsbury’s Store Manager in Ballymena, his staff and Ballymena Borough Council’s Sports Development Officer, Katrina McCaughan, for the use of the Active Communities Coaches. Special thanks also go to Lead Coach Julie Alexander whose expertise was thoroughly enjoyed by all those involved.

Seven Towers Leisure Centre is hosting another two Multi-sport weeks beginning August 12th and 19th. Places are filling up fast and as places are limited.
