Local runners are ‘Bang’ on course

THREE Ballymena athletes were in action on Saturday morning as North Down Athletics Club hosted it showpiece Bangor 10k road race.

Clear blue skies and bright sunshine greeted the 728 runners who tackled the picturesque coastal course.

Stephen Phillips in his debut season took advantage of the perfect conditions and continued his rapid run of progression to a record personal best for the distance.

Stephen clipped a fantastic 3mins 14secs of his previous best to finish in 52mins 14secs and claim 273rd place.

Peter Drennan also in his first season in the sport recorded a personal best by taking 25seconds of his previous best to finish in 46mins 3secs to claim 136th place.

The groups newest recruit Shaun Friel on his first outing at the distance posted a creditable time of 51mins 55seconds to finish in 255th place.

The group are all members of Gregory Walsh’s running club who are based at Fitness First and Michelin Atheletic Club.
