Local runners continue to make great strides

FIT N Running Ballymena had four athletes in action at the recent Duncrue 5 mile road race in North Belfast.

The Albertville Harriers hosted event is the traditional curtain raiser to the road race season.

Strong winds swept the course as the four local athletes all made their debut performances at the distance.

First of the local group to finish was James Wallace who despite the effects of a head cold continued his London Marathon preparations with a creditable finishing time of 33mins 21secs to claim 59 place.

Stephen Phillips on his first outing since damaging ankle ligaments used the race to build his fitness and finished under the 8min mile barrier in a time of 39mins 33secs marking a considerable improvement in his race pace.

Paula Wallace going in the female open continued her recent run of good form and London marathon preparations with a 9th place finish in 39mins 3secs.

One place down in 10th place in the female race was the inspirational Lesley Kerr who has made incredible progress over the past 10months. During this period since teaming up with Fit N Running Lesley has shed 2 stone plus taken up and made massive improvement in her running. Her finishing time was 41mins 43secs.

Fit N Running Train on Monday and Tuesday nights at 615pm. At weekends training is on Saturday morning at 915am and Sunday morning at 930am. The Club is Based at the Michelin Athletic Club.
