McDowell wins stableford event at Galgorm

At halfway Reginald McDowell (19) was leading by three points from Garth Wilson (19), Lewis Surgenor (16) and Colin Black (18) with Andrew McLarnon (13) and Michael Burton (19) a further two points back.

Through The Maple Burton after a run of par, bogey and two pars was leading along with Surgenor (bogey and three pars) by a point from an improving McLarnon (four pars), Wilson, Black and a retreating McDowell (bogey and three double bogeys). Up the Grove Wilson joined Surgenor but were being hard pressed by McLarnon McDowell a point behind.

In a very close and exciting finish McDowell upped his game and with two pars came home to win Overall by one point from McLarnon (two pars), Wilson (two bogeys) and Surgenor (two bogeys). The Overall Runner-up place went to McLarnon with a better back nine. Wilson won Division 3 with a better front three with Surgenor taking second place two points ahead of Burton in third place.

In Division 1 at the turn Thomas McNeill (10) was leading by a point from Michael Alexander (5), Michael Brown (10) and Patrick Bamber (5) followed by Willie Park (10) another two points behind.

Up the Grove and with two to play McNeill was two points ahead of Brown and Park. McNeill parred the Lowlands to take a three point advantage over Brown (bogey), Park (bogey) and Bamber (par) followed by Alexander (bogey) another point back.

McNeill ‘dinged’ the last but held on to win by two points. Brown and Bamber also ‘dinged’ the last and Alexander took advantage with a par to take second place. A further point down Brown with a better last three finished in third place.

Park won the Seniors and the Gross was won by Michael Reid (-3) 35 pts.

Andy Moore (15) was being hard pressed by Chris Djorjani (12), Neil Fitzsimmons (13) and Gary Hood (13) a point behind at the turn in Division 2. Stephen Bashford (11) was a further point behind. Hood bogeyed the Lowlands but lost his chance of winning after a ‘ding’ up eighteen. Moore finished with two bogeys to win by a point from Bashford (par, bogey) with third place going to Djordani (par, bogey).

In Division 4 after the front nine there was a close encounter between Brian Watt (20) and James McKay (27) with the former leading by one point. Another two points back came Graham Murray (20) followed by James Rea (27) a further two points behind. Barry Mott (20) was a further two points adrift.

Mott continued to make progress and after the Grove had moved into the lead by one point from Watt. Murray (‘ding’ at the Grove) came3 next another point behind.

A double bogey, par finish saw Mott finish three points clear of Watt (bogey, ‘ding’ at the last) and much improved McKay (two pars) and with a better back nine McKay took second place with Watt third,
