Ballymena’s Steven Donnelly wins opening bout at Rio Olympics

Ballymena and Ireland’s Steven Donnelly is through to the last 16 of the 69kg weight division at the Olympics after winning in Rio on Sunday.

The All Saints boxer was just too good for Zohir Kedache of Algeria as he saw him off easily over three rounds.

Donnelly just had too much in his locker for his opponent and he can now look forward to the next round.

Donnelly will face Tuvshinbat Byamba in the last 16 on Thursday. The Mongolian looked decent in seeing off Argentina’s Alberto Palmetta
