Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles – will hold their first “open” promotion of the season on Sunday 25th January when their annual reliability trials take place from Rex Bonar House, Railway Street.
Everyone has been looking forward to this event, which signifies that the countdown to the racing season has official began.
It is expected that cyclists from all over Northern Ireland will assemble at Rex Bonar House for the 10am start. The Road Club hope for a big turnout this year as, at the time of writing, this is the first reliability trial of the season on the Cycling Ulster 2015 calendar of leisure events.
Everyone who takes part will be hoping for similar weather conditions to those enjoyed last year when, fortunately, it was perfect for the time of year – calm, dry and, while very cold, frost free.
However please come prepared for whatever the NI winter weather can produce, as often, in the past, this trial has taken place in extremely harsh riding conditions which more resembled a polar expedition than a cycle ride.
Many thanks to all those who have already offered to assist on the day, especially the backup vehicle drivers and the ladies who do the registration at the start of the day and also the tea and clearing up at the finish.
However more help is always needed, so please volunteer if you are able to assist. Back up mechanical support around the route is always appreciated as there can never be enough of this type of help.
Ballymena Road Club has so far registered 45 members following the on-going CI website applications and at their first signing on evening held last Monday evening.
Bearing in mind Cycling Ulster’s policy regarding participation in all “group cycling activities” it is very important that anyone who is currently taking part in the weekend Ballymena R C club runs has their 2015 membership applied for.
Another registration meeting will be held on Monday 12th January. (7.15pm).
