Exciting finish to Millennium Jug event at Galgorm

The Millennium Jug 2 Man Stroke Competition held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club had a very close and exciting ending with six teams finishing with the same number of shots.

At halfway three teams (John McCarry (8)/John Fitzgerald (24); Eoghan Daly (18)/Ronan Speers (23) and Andrew McKibben (20)/David Cameron (23) were vying for the lead.

The Ivan Alexander (16)/ David Chappell (16) and Michael Montgomery (17)/Ciaran Corbett (11) pairings were two shots behind with Ian Henry (21) and Sam Graham (19) another shot down.

McKibben and Cameron raced into a three shot advantage through twelve with the help of a par, bogey and a par but a bogey at the next to a par from the McCarry/Fitzgerald partnership closed the gap to one shot.

Daly and Speers were a further shot behind and were joined by Montgomery and Corbett and Henry and S.Graham. Alexander and Chappell were two further shots behind.

Up the Grove and approaching the Lowlands new leaders appeared. A run of three pars by the McCarry/Fitzgerald and Daly/Speers teams saw them take a one shot lead over McKibben and Cameron. They were joined by Montgomery and Corbett. Henry and Graham were another shot away and were joined by an improving Alexander and Chappell with three pars.

In an exciting and tight finish all six pairings recorded the same score. Daly and Speers came home double bogey, bogey; McCarry and Fitzgerald bogey, par; McKibben and Cameron par, bogey; Montgomery and Corbett two pars; Alexander and Chappell two pars and Henry and Graham two pars.

With a better back nine Henry and Graham were the Overall Winners from Alexander and Chappell (better back six) second. Third place went to Montgomery and Corbett with a better back nine and McCarry and Fitzgerald took fourth place with a better front six.
