Ballymena Ladies 3rd XI opened their Junior 5 account with a well-deserved 4-0 win over Knock at the Academy grounds.
From the pass back Ballymena had the visitors on the back foot, forcing them to defend deep and with only 10 minutes gone Alison Marshall was on target to open her account for the season for a 1-0 lead.
Strong midfield play from Emily Alexander, Emma Johnston and Ruth Barr increased the pressure on the Knock defence but Ballymena couldn’t convert further chances before the break.
Into the second half and with Knock pushing for an equaliser Ballymena broke into space for Charlene Lorimer to apply the finishing touch to double the home lead.
Alison Marshall followed with a third and her second of the day, before Ruth Barr got a fourth late on in the game to make it a solid 4-0 victory for this young side.
Congratulations go to the goal scorers and also Shealyn Smyth and Lauren Greer on their debut with the senior squad. The team would like to thank Joanne Davis for umpiring.

* Earlier in the week, the ladies’ First XI opened their season with a 2-1 Senior CUp win over Cookstown.
Ballymena II 5, Parkview 1: The Men’s 2nds hosted Parkview 1st XI in their first Junior 6 Cup game at the Academy grounds on Saturday.
The home side quickly got into their stride and it was a common theme throughout the first half as time and again the Parkview keeper came to his side’s rescue. However Ballymena did score twice, the first from Phil Moody followed by Andy Lorimer to take a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.
In search of a third to wrap up the game, Ballymena were rattled by a quick breakaway goal from Parkview to reduce the lead. Ballymena’s fitness started to tell as Andy Lorimer stole his second goal for a 3-1 lead mid-way through the half. Continuing to press the Parkview defence, Ballymena won two penalty flicks as a result of goal bound shots being stopped by feet on the line. Lorimer duly stepped up and squared both away to win the game 5-1 with a personal tally of four goals!
The team would like to thank Andy Linford and Joanne Davis for umpiring.
Ballymena: E Hampton (GK), A Hanna (C), E Archer, J Grimasson, S Glass, T Cole, P Moody, S Gordon, H Ramsey, W Barr, A Lorimer, B Mills, D McDonald.
