Fit N Running athlete Mark McKinstry earned the ultimate accolade for any sportsperson when he was selected to represent his country on Saturday.

Hot on the heels of his course record breaking victory at Glenariffe forest Mark received a call up to the Northern Ireland senior men’s team for Saturday’s I.A.A.F. International cross country event at Greenmount in Antrim.

This is the second successive year that the Glenwherry man, who is coached by Gregory Walsh, has represented his country at this event.

Undaunted by the experience Mark produced the finest performance yet of his short, success-packed career when he was the 2nd Northern Ireland athlete home and claimed an impressive 18th place overall from a high class field of 134 runners.

Mark’s time was 24mins 15secs.

At the front of the field it was dominated by the Africans who filled the top 5 places.
