The curtain will come down on the Ballymena & District Churches League season this week when the final of the league’s knockout competition takes place.
KIllymurris Glarryford will meet Buckna in the final of the Nelson Cup, which will be played at Second Broughshane this Thursday evening, at 7.45pm.
The two sides have dominated the competition in recent years, with Glarryford’s run of four successive victories between 2010-13 disrupted last season when Buckna claimed the silverware.
With Buckna having relinquished their league title to First Ahoghill, they will be anxious to finish the campaign on a trophy-winning note.
Meanwhile, in the league, Buckna require just a point from their one remaining fixture to secure runners-up spot.
They beat Connor 4-1 in their penultimate math to open up a four-and-a-half point lead over Cuningham Memorial ‘B’.
The Cullybackey side also have one fixture left to play but they will require maximum points plus an unlikely slip-up from Buckna if they are to pinch the silver medal position.
Latest league standings are: First Ahoghill, played 21, points 89.5; Buckna 20-74.5; Cuningham ‘B’ 20-70; First Broughshane 21-69; Killymurris Glarryford 20-64.5; St Patrick’s Ballymena 20-60.5; Glenwherry 21-56.5; Cloughwater 20-56; Second Broughshane ‘A’ 21-56; Connor 21-56; Cullybackey Methodist ‘A’ 21-53.5; Killymurris Carnlea 21-53.5; Ballymena Methodist 21-51; Harryville 21-47; High Kirk 21-42.5; Clough ‘A’ 21-41.5; Craigs 20-40; Grange 20-36.5; CUllybackey Methodist ‘B’ 21-36.5; Second Broughshane ‘B’ 21-34.5; Cuningham ‘A’ 21-28.5; Clough ‘B’.
