Having been runner-up in a Sweep Competition before Christmas, Nigel Douglas moved into the overall winning position in the Saturday Sweep on January 10.
Sixty-eight faced inclement weather conditions in a reduced field. Nigel had a shot on handicap on each of the 13 hole course where he scored four pars, eight bogeys plus a double bogey on the par four eighth which yielded him 29 Stableford points.
His last four holes produced 10 points against runner-up, Stephen Surgenor, who scored eight points on the same four holes. Surgenor (10) scored four pars, eight bogeys plus a birdie four on the par five ninth to also finish with 29 points only to lose out over those last four holes.
Third place went to Harry McGarry (7), who returned 28 points which came via eight pars, a dropped shot on the seventh and 12th but a double bogey on the third and fifth gave Harry only one point from those two holes. However, he registered a birdie on the final hole giving him 28 points.
Best Gross score came from Gary Black, who played the course in 53 shots, similar to Michael Smyth but Michael’s card was not signed by a member which proved costly. Black recorded eight pars, dropped shots on the eighth, 10th, 11th and 12th but he managed to birdie the par five third which was his only three pointer of the round.
