Randalstown travelled to play Lurgan on Saturday in a gripping Premier League clash, eventually returning with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Lurgan started off all guns blazing, quick to attack the Randalstown defence. Randalstown were slow to react allowing Lurgan’s pressure to intensify.

Lurgan’s efforts were rewarded when a miscommunication between two of Randalstown’s defenders left a Lurgan player free in the circle to open up the score line leaving Lurgan 1-0 up at half time.

After coach Harry McNeill’s team talk at half time Randalstown looked like a different team with elegant passing all over the pitch with near scoring opportunities.

Zoe Wilson initiated an attack with an aerial from the half way line to Nicole Moore who with Jayne McGrillen created a 2v1 on the keeper. Moore levelled the score hammering the ball in the back of the net.

Randalstown’s new lease of life continued, a spectacular deceptive 50yard pass from Alex Ogilby into the circle allowed Katherine McDowell to skilfully deflect the ball into Lurgan’s net for the winning goal.

Randalstown will face Lurgan on Wednesday 24th February at Mossley Hockey Club at 8:15pm, all support welcome. Thanks to the continued support from Randalstown 1st XI sponsors Redz, Junction One.

Dromore II 1, Randalstown II 2: Randalstown 2nds had a tough fixture away to Dromore, travelling with the bare minimum number of players due to unavailability of regular players.

Rebecca Greenfield in Randalstown goals had to be alert to clear the danger on two occasions early on and this spurred the local girls into action. Alice Reid was on hand to finish a neat move between Sasha Lawther and Alice Christie to give Randalstown the lead.

Alice Reid got her brace near the end of the first half when she calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.

Dromore scored a goal following a quick free and Randalstown had to weather a stormy period including a disallowed goal and were extremely pleased to come away with three points going into a difficult week of fixtures.
