Fit N Running had five athletes in action at on Friday night at the Magherafelt 5k road race.

It certainly wasn’t an event that would produce fast times as there was a steep one mile climb to greet the athletes early on.

It was however a successful evening for the Ballymena based group with 4 of their male athletes finishing in the top eight.

The ever improving Vernon Shiels took the climb in his stride as he claimed 3rd place in a personal best time of 17mins 22secs. Talented beginner John Miskimmin who took up running 12 weeks ago was 4th also recording a personal best of 17mins 57secs.

Conor Shiels claimed 5th in 18mins 2 secs while Colin Apperley was 8th in 18mins 30 secs.

Also in action was Sharon Leetch of Ballymena Runners who has been training with Fit N Running over the last 3 weeks.

She produced a fine performance to finish 1st in the female open.
