Two podium places for McKinstry over Easter period

Mark McKinstry claimed two podium finishes in the space of a week over the Easter period.

The Fit N Running athlete was second on Easter Saturday as NI Running hosted their annual five mile forest race at Ballyboley Forest.

A week later, over the same distance, he repeated the feat when he ran 26 mins 20 secs to claim second position at the Magherafelt five mile road race.


Three of Fit N Running’s latest recruits made promising 5k debuts in the north west on Friday evening.

They were taking part in the Dental Solutions sponsored Eglinton 5k road race.

Vernos Shiels was 23rd in 18 mins 21 secs with John Apperley 11 secs adrift in 18 mins 42 secs in 26th place.

Colin Apperley finished in 19 mins 8 secs in 33rd place.


Fit N Running weekly sessions and times are as follows:

Monday 615pm Recreational Run.

Tuesday 615pm Advanced Run.

Wednesday 615pm Conditioning Circuit class.

Wednesday 715pm Recreational Run.

There is also an adfitional session on Saturday morning for the advanced group.

All these sessions are from the Michelin Athletic Club on the Woodside Road in Ballymena.
