A healthy entry of more than 180 pairs had started the week’s qualifiers, held in the impressive surroundings of the new church hall.

There was great support on each of the qualifying nights and a bumper attendance for Saturday’s finals night.

And there was drama right to the end for the crowd as Morrison and partner Nigel Robinson (Ballymena Bowling Club) secured the title by beating Alicia Weir and Eddie Crawford (Mossley) on a tie end.

The organisers hope that on the back on the success of the tournament, it can become an annual fixture on the schedule of licensed tournaments.

Results from the finals night were:

First round: Glenn Smith/Mark Wilson (Cookstown High) bt Davy Calvin/Joe Moore (Ballinrees); Nigel Robinson/Andrew Morrison (BIBC/First Ahoghill) bt Denver Logan/Alan McCombe (Grange).

Quarter-finals: Robinson/Morrison bt Smith/Wilson; Mark Sproule/Aidan Corrigan (Drumgor) bt Gary Merron/Damian McAllister (Cookstown); David Duncan/Andrew Duncan (Second Donegore) bt Ennis Hamilton/John Carson (St Joseph’s); Alicia Weir/Eddie Crawford (Mossley) bt Christopher Wilson/Graham Wilson (Michelin).

Semi-finals: Robinson/Morrison bt Sproule/Corrigan; Weir/Crawford bt Duncan/Duncan.

Final: Robinson/Morrison bt Weir/Crawford (tie end).
