Brisk business for Mid-Antrim club at weekend show

The local Mid-Antrim club members were in attendance over the three-day duration of the Eikon Bike Show last weekend.

Entries for the meeting have already started to flood in, with one of the first being Ryan Farquhar.

Ryan is down to ride an R1 in the Superbike race. Certainly the first time I remember him riding anything other than a Kawasaki in the big bike class.

There seems to be a good entry from riders from South of the Border too and the club’s arrangement with the ferry companies mean that we may see a good number of cross channel riders come to the line.

BIKE SHOW

The Blackhorse backed motorcycle festival was at the Eikon Centre last weekend.

The whole show is contained in one building now at the Maze prison site, and while it was great to catch up on some friends, most of the guests have been here before, and some more than once.

Having said that, the guests who attended were great, with Michael Dunlop being the star. He had his rally car outside and took quite a few people for a run round a track that was laid out for him.

It’s got to be a thumbs up for Billy and Marty Nutt. It’s a serious undertaking to organise a show like this and even to put the basic infrastructure in place needs great organisational skills.

‘NIFTY FIFTY’

The longest and daftest event of the racing year - the ‘Nifty Fifty - takes place at Mondello Park this weekend.

More importantly, it’s the first on-track action of 2016.

The Nifty Fifty event, which raises quite a bit of money each year for charity, is this Saturday and it always provides a light-hearted, fun-filled start to the race season.
