Mid-Antrim 150 prize night

Last Saturday night saw the prizegiving for this year’s Mid Antrim 150 race meeting take place in Clough Glasgow Rangers Supporters’ Club.

For the first time in a few years, the main award of the night, the Man of the Meeting prize, went South of the border, to Skerries.

Michael Sweeney ran out as the winner of that one, having picked up something like 8 other prizes on the night.

Local riders fared well, though. Antrim’s Mark Hanna lifted a couple of trophies, having won both the Senior and Junior support events.

Diane Davidson collected the Jimmy Millar Memorial Trophy on behalf of her brother Barry for his win in the 350 classic race. Barry was in Monaghan to collect his 350 championship award.

Cullybackey’s Mark McNeilly, who rode in the Rathkenny Track & Enduro colours, lifted the Mackness Trophy, for the first Mid Antrim club member in the 125 race.

Special mention was made of the job that had been done over the year by the outgoing Miss Mid Antrim 150, Zoe McKinnon.

Zoe, from Galgorm, has been a fantastic ambassador, for not just the meeting, but for the club as well.

I know from personal experience that she loves her bikes and racing, having spotted her more than once at races helping out - not much worry about the state of her nails there!

Zoe was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a framed photo of herself at the Mid Antrim this year. Thanks for making my job easy as well.

It’s a pity that a few more riders couldn’t have attended, but at least the ones who did had a great evening.

My thanks to the Mid Antrim club for the night’s craic, and especially to Davy McCartney and Derek McWhirter for all the info during the year.

I’m looking forward to 2014 already.
