New bike for local ace Barry

ANTRIM joiner Bob Wylie has taken delivery of the very first Moto3 bike to grace these shores.

The bike, which has been introduced to the MotoGP paddock this year, is aimed at replacing the 125cc 2stroke machines.

Wylie’s machine, a 250cc single cylinder 4 stroke, will be ridden on the roads this year by Glarryford man Barry Davidson.

Davidson, a former Manx Grand Prix winner, has already taken part in his first race meetings on the machine, the little bike performing well at Bishopscourt on Friday and Saturday.

Talking to Barry he said ‘It’s got loads of grunt out of slow corners. I’m looking forward to getting it to Cookstown and Bush. Places where there’s plenty of slow corners that you need to drive hard out of.

‘We are still learning about it and we have nobody to ask. It’s all learning for us.’ Barry told me on Sunday.

Watching the wee bikes performance, it seems to be easy to get out of slow corners, but the GP bike appears to just have the edge mid range.

They seem to be about the same in top speed. It will be interesting to see how the wee bike performs on the tight road race circuits, especially in the South.
