No codding - it’s a pink fish supper!

Now, there’s a time and a ‘plaice’ for jokes but we’re not ‘codding’ when we tell you that a Bushmills chip shop has produced a Giro d’Italia-inspired PINK fish supper!

The colour-coded fish supper idea was the brainchild of Geoffrey McKillop, the owner of The Hip Chip in Bushmills.

Geoffrey told us: “I went along to the Giro d’Italia launch event in Ballycastle recently.

“They were urging local businesses to get involved and try to tie in with the pink theme for the Giro when it comes through the area.

“Afterwards, we were chatting over a coffee and I joked that I could produce a pink fish supper!

“I never gave it another thought but then we decided to give it a go by making pink batter for the fish using food colouring.”

The Ballymoney and Moyle Times felt it was our duty to test out the pink fish so we sent our photographer Sammy McMullan and Dalriada School work experience student Hannah Frizzel along to sample the dish.

And, they can report that, while the pink fish may confuse the eye somewhat, it tastes absolutely delicious!

The Hip Chip plans to serve the Giro pink fish on the day the ‘peloton’ will cycle through the village - Saturday, May 10.

Bushmills, along with Ballycastle and the Causeway Coast, is looking forward to hosting over 200 of the world’s cycle racing elite that day.

Don’t think the riders are allowed to stop off for a pink fish supper, though!
