The U16s continued their recent good form on Saturday with a hard fought win over Lurgan Town. Robbie Dennison and Zack Herbison were on target the Blues in their best performance of the season to date.

Elsewhere in the Lisburn League the U15s raced to a two goal lead in the first half before surrendering their advantage in the second half, with the match ending in a 3-3 draw, leaving Manager Johnny Sayers a disappointed man.

Northend United 3 Dungiven Celtic 4: It was Dungiven who were first on the score sheet after three minutes. Within a minute Northend were back on level terms when the ball was played through by Ryan Campbell for Jay McKeown to burst through and fire the ball high into the net.

McKeown then muscled his way past the defence and his shot came off the inside of the post and into the back of the net to make it 2-1. O’Broin and McAvoy combined well resulting in a corner which Campbell floated across for McKeown to head into the back of the net to make it 3-1 at half-time.

If the first half belonged to Northend it was Dungiven who dominated the second half as they pulled an early goal back and were putting the defence under pressure. The equaliser eventually came with only 5 minutes left. Dungiven now with their tails up kept attacking and got the winner in the last minute.

Northend United 2 Maiden City 6: Owen Campbell pressurised the Maiden City right back and Lewis Hector controlled the breaking ball before firing home from twenty yards.

Maiden City pulled themselves level on the ten minute mark with a well worked goal. Maiden City showed that little extra edge in front of goal and notched up a comfortable lead.

Owen Campbell worked tirelessly throughout the game and got his reward towards the end of the half when he fired an unstoppable right foot drive into the far top corner of the goal after cutting in from the left wing. Full time 6-2

UNDER 12s - Dungiven Celtic 1 Northend United 2: Pat Ferris battled hard to get to the touch line and with a very tight angle hit a thunderous shot toward to keeper who could not keep it out. Deservedly Northend were one up.

However Northend failed to close down a Dungiven player and what looked like a cross fooled everyone with it looping over the keepers head.

Northend pushed on and passed the ball impressively and Pat Ferris slid a lovely diagonal pass though to Cameron Russell who slid in to nip the ball past the onrushing keeper.

Northend United 3 Oxford Sunnyside 4: Northend took the lead when Conor McGarry rose highest in the box to direct a superb header into the top corner, from a great Robert Iovu cross. Oxford Sunnyside equalised from a penalty 10 minutes before half-time. They then took the lead a few minutes later. Northend equalised from a Robert Iovu penalty just 3 minutes before half-time.

Northend conceded a soft goal 5 minutes into the second half, but showed great character to drag themselves back into the match. Tom Patchett equalised with a great free-kick from 22 yards to put the scores level with 10 minutes to go. Northend committed a foul on the edge of the box with 4 minutes to go and Oxford Sunnyside scored direct from the resulting free kick.

Mallusk Athletic 3 Northend United 3: The Blues opened the scoring fifteen minutes into the half as Kuba Babuszewski to raced clear of the Mallusk defence and plant the ball into the corner of the Mallusk net. Declan Dobbin and Anthony Shaw were playing well at the heart of the Northend defence but they could do nothing as Mallusk equalised shortly afterwards.

It wasn’t long before Northend regained the lead. From a throw in, Jordan Adams picked up the ball and smashed a shot into the top corner of the Mallusk net, with the keeper well beaten.

James Hayburn should have further extended Northend’s lead when he missed an easy chance from two yards.

In a first half which Northend almost dominated from start to finish, Sam Hutchinson got their third goal when he scored from a Jordan Adams corner.

Mallusk pulled a goal back after ten minutes of the second half when their striker found space in the Northend defence to plant the ball past Josh Mark in the Northend nets.

Mallusk drew level in the match with ten minutes remaining.

Lurgan Town 1 Northend United 2: From another Herbison corner, Robbie Dennison’s powerful header smashed into the back of the net to give the Blues a deserved 1-0 lead.

Minutes before half time and Lurgan scored an equaliser when their centre forward chased down a long punt upfield and as he entered the Northend penalty box was hauled down to earn a penalty. The same player dusted himself down and planted the ball past Bradley Cairns.

With ten minutes of the match remaining the Blues won a corner kick. Zack Herbison’s inswinging corner kick flew into the back of the Lurgan goals taking a slight deflection along the way.
