Old Bleach bowlers wrap up league and cup ‘double’

Old Bleach completed a Midweek Triples League and cup double by securing the Connie Scott Memorial Cup last week.

The Randalstown side, having already secured the Evans Shield for winning the league title, steamrollered Ahoghill by 40 shots in Friday night’s final at Neillsbrook.

Old Bleach cruised to victory to complete a memorable campaign and they were presented with the trophy by Tammy Scott, grand-daughter of the late Connie Scott.

It had also been decided this year that the Scott Cup would be played for charity and Billy Scott, Connie’s husband, and family nominated a cancer charity as the recipient of the £215 raised by players during the competition and they have thanked everyone who contributed so generously.

Old Bleach 72, Ahoghill 32: D Selfridge 23, B Greer 8; A Booth 29, J Marks 14; S Barkley 20, D McNeill 10.

LEAGUE

Old Bleach emerged as league winners by one-and-a-half points from Antrim I after all the games were completed.

Latest results were:

Antrim I 57 (4), Broughshane 34 (1): J Marks 20, WJ Surgenor 10; T Evans 28, P Johnston 6; F Coulter 9, F Wilson 18.

Portglenone (5), Antrim I (0) - no scorecards received.

Antrim I (4), Ahoghill (1) - no scorecards received.

Portglenone (5), Broughshane (0) - Broughshane were unable to field a team and conceded the points.

Old Bleach 40 (5), Antrim II 29 (0): S Barkley 11, W Walker 10; Ew Evans 17, M Neeson 10; D Selfridge 12, R McCullough 9.

Old Bleach received the Evans family Shield from Old Bleach President George Barnes.

LEAGUE TABLE

Final league standings were: Old Bleach 33 points; Antrim II 31.5; Broughshane 24.5; Portglenone 21.5; Ahoghill 19; Antrim I 15.5.

League secretary Seamus Gilmore thanked all the teams for taking part and said he hoped they all enjoyed the competition. He also thanked the Ballymena/Antrim Times for its editorial and photographic coverage of the league.
