Pistols calling the shots at top of snooker league

The top match in Division 1 of the Ballymena and District Snooker League saw the 147 Pistols extend their lead at the head of the table with a 3-1 win over nearest challengers Minnesota Rockets.

Declan McClean was the winner for Minnesota but wins for Ryan McQuillan, Jamie Martin and Jordan Brown ensured John O’Reilly’s team would be the Christmas pacesetters.

Minnesota Strikers bounced back from a couple of recent defeats with a 3-1 win over the visiting Potters Hotshots. Trevor Alexander, Bill McKane and Gary McAleese won for the Ballymena side with Stephen McIlroy’s win on a respotted third frame black being the consolation for the Hotshots.

Reigning champions Minnesota B are beginning to lose their grip on their league title after a 2-2 draw with Potters in Ballymena. Davy McClintock and Willie Dobbin had the home team 2 up but Marc Hutchinson and Willie Boreland hit back for the Coleraine teamwhose hopes of being crowned champions are still very much alive as they have both of the top two teams yet to play.

Division 2 is developing into a tight league with only 4 points separating the top 5 sides. Potters Elite are the current leaders after fighting back from 2 down for a draw with Allstars in Coleraine. Shaw Williamson and Adrian McGonagle had threatened an upset but Curtis Boreland and Lee Hull gained a couple of vital points for the Elite side.

Parochial Lions were also held to a 2-2 scoreline at Seagulls Potters. Richard Russell and Shane Moody were the winners for the Lions with Ivan Boreland and James Nesbitt keeping Seagulls Potters in toudh with the teams just above them in the league.

Parochial Hawks joined the mix at the top with a 3-1 success over Dunloy Cowboys. Simon Black, Pat McNally and Niall McElroy won for the Hawks with the ever consistant Randall McDonnell replying for the Cowboys.
