The Tyco BMW rider’s chances in race one were thwarted when PBM Be Wiser Ducati rider Glenn Irwin was clipped from behind by Peter Hickman on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki, who was sent tumbling into the unfortunate Laverty as all three failed to finish. Irwin retired with a gearshifter problem.

He had more joy in race two which was cut short after a crash, meaning the result was declared, with Laverty in third position at the time.

The result takes him to seventh place in the Championship.

Laverty said: “It was good to get back onto the rostrum after the weekend I’ve had.

“The two qualifying crashes were avoidable, but today’s I had no control over whatsoever - I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Hopefully this gets me back on track and fighting to get inside the top six.”
